Evelyn Whyte: 1st Lisburn Presbyterian Church

Each week is different and varied, with Bible studies, nursing home services, staff meeting, CYU club (senior citizens group), Friday club, pastoral visiting and prayer healing ministry - along with the unexpected.
Nursing home services continue to be an important part of my ministry.  It is so good to have the support of a team who contribute in music and song and are able to share responsibility for talks and leading.  It has been an encouragement to see how God is using this ministry to touch peoples lives even in and through all the interruption.  Over the years it has been good to build relationships with people and they have become our friends.
Prayer Healing Ministry.  At the end of 2007 another five people joined the team after completing a training course with Divine Healing Ministries.  On the first Sunday in January they were commissioned in a service led by Dr Gray and Canon Jardine, and very quickly became part of the team.
This year again we opened the church during the Holiday Bible Club and used the Olympic Games as our theme, linking in with the theme of HBC.  Prayer displays in the church were all relating to the theme to help people in prayer and meditation.  On the Tuesday evening we had a Chinese cookery evening, focusing for part of the time on the Church in China.  We encourage people to see the importance of prayer, and people who have come for prayer have proved that “prayer changes things”.  I am very grateful to the team who constantly encourage me to see God in the small things, and expect the bigger things to happen.
Friday Club.  This is a group for people who suffer from depression and nervous problems.  Again, a team of people are involved in running this group and caring for members.  My responsibility is looking after the short devotional time each week.
The work is varied and there are always challenges but I am so thankful to God for how He gives me everything I need to meet those challenges.
